EMBRACING FOMO: CELEBRATING ‘FOREST FOR MY ORANGUTAN’!

The Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation successfully held an event and talk show about orangutan conservation and rehabilitation on August 26. The event, titled FOMO: Forest for My Orangutan, was attended by 100 participants, ranging from students to professionals.  The BOS Foundation invited two expert speakers to enliven this casual talk show event, drh. Nur Purba Priambada, a veterinarian from the Wildlife Veterinarian Association, and Willy Wiryawan, a wildlife photographer who works across Indonesia. The talk show was also supported by BOS Foundation awareness campaigners, Davina Veronica and Fade2Black.

The activity was held in honour of World Orangutan Day (observed annually on August 19) and was part of an initiative to increase community awareness of the importance of orangutan protection and habitat conservation.

The event began with a 45-minute screening of one episode from the documentary series, Orangutan Jungle School, which was followed by a question-and-answer session. This film presents the story of orangutans’ journey from the time they arrive at the rehabilitation centre until they are released back into the forest. This film also illustrates the difficulties faced not just by the rehabilitant orangutans, but also by conservation organisations fighting for their future. Participants were excited about the event and were especially engaged during the question-and-answer session with the special guests.

Our fantastic ‘FOMO’ celebration would not have been possible without the support of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, sponsors, and media partners who assisted in event planning, publicity, and execution.

Now the hard work truly begins! Armed with a new and improved understanding of orangutan and habitat conservation efforts, community members are better poised to become active participants in the preservation of this magnificent species. We hope everyone will share what they have learned and we all, no matter where we are from or what we do, can work together to save orangutans!
