After a year-long preparation to ensure the safety and welfare of the orangutans in our rehabilitation centres during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is finally time for us to return the gardeners of the forest back to where they belong.
This year, we plan to safely return more orangutans to the wild, using any mean necessary so that they are protected from COVID-19 and still able to live freely in Kalimantan rainforests.
All the while we will continue to support the orangutans after their release through the ongoing work of the post-release monitoring teams and prepare future release candidates on pre-release islands for their potential return to free forests.
