On Bangamat Pre-release island, Mema is refining her natural instincts, preparing for the moment she will return permanently to the rainforest she belongs in. Even though Mema now spends most of her time exploring deep into the forest, she always looks healthy and agile on the rare occasions she is spotted.
BACKGROUND STORY
Mema came to rehabilitation centre in a terrible state, as a weak baby weighing only 2.3 kilograms. She was found by a local villager who claimed to have come across her whilst searching for firewood in a burned peat area. He took Mema to the local village chief, who reported the finding to our team at Nyaru Menteng. Today, Mema has reached a proud turning point on Bangamat Pre-Release Island. She has become more independent, exploring deeper into the forest while naturally rebuilding her wild instincts.
