YUYUN: JOURNEY TO RECOVERY AND A NEW HOME ON THE ISLAND
Yuyun is an orangutan who has lived on Island #0 at Samboja Lestari for a long time, sharing her space with her fellow orangutan, Jeffrey.
We are working hard to protect the Bornean orangutan and its habitat for future generations. Here are some of the ways we've helped develop a world where orangutans and nature thrive.
Yuyun is an orangutan who has lived on Island #0 at Samboja Lestari for a long time, sharing her space with her fellow orangutan, Jeffrey.
Unfortunately, not all unreleasable orangutans are as fortunate as Kopral, who can return to the island and live a semi-free life after treatment. Other orangutans, like Pongi, are forced to spend most of his lives in a cage...
Kopral has been receiving treatment at the clinic since April 2023 due to wounds on the sole of his right foot and fungus between his toes.
Jeffrey, an unreleasable male orangutan who is too old to undergo the rehabilitation process, is now sharing Island 0 with Yuyun, a female orangutan who was transferred to the island in February.
Yuyun is a 29-year-old female orangutan with Orangutan Respiratory Disease Syndrome (ORDS) who previously occupied an individual enclosure at the Samboja Lestari Rehabilitation Centre.
