JOB DESCRIPTION

General Description

The Biodiversity Officer within the Monitoring and Evaluation Bureau is responsible for ensuring the identification, documentation, compilation, and analysis of biodiversity data as well as other High Conservation Values (HCVs) across BOS Foundation’s working areas.

The Biodiversity Officer will be based at the BOS Foundation Headquarters in Bogor and will undertake official travel to program sites in Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan. BOS Foundation has targeted Samboja Lestari, Nyaru Menteng 2, and Salat Island as the initial batch of proposed Preservation Areas to be submitted to the Directorate of Ecosystem Restoration and Preservation Area Development (PEBAB), Ministry of Forestry, in 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the identification, documentation, compilation, and analysis of biodiversity and HCV data in collaboration with BOS Foundation program implementers, stakeholders, and community groups in Central and East Kalimantan.
  • Work jointly with the Program Manager and the Program, Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Bureau to finalize biodiversity and HCV identification and documentation modules.
  • Coordinate schedules, logistics, transportation, and accommodation for biodiversity and HCV identification and documentation teams.
  • Collaborate with Preservation Area proposal coordinators in each program to advocate and mainstream BOS Foundation’s working areas as indicative Preservation Areas at both local and national levels.
  • Develop a comprehensive biodiversity and HCV database across all BOS Foundation working areas and store it in a secure digital data platform accessible to BOS Foundation staff under specific access protocols.
  • Report directly to the Head of the Program, Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting Bureau regarding all responsibilities and deliverables.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Forestry.
  • Strong interest in fieldwork.
  • Willingness to travel to BOS Foundation program sites.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to collect spatial data in the field and process it using spatial/information mapping software such as ArcGIS and/or Google Earth Engine (GEE).
