Do you remember the two baby orangutans who were rescued together in mid 2025?
Esa and Indri were first reported to our Medical Team through two separate phone calls. Based on the information received, a resident of Samboja District reported the presence of two infant orangutans in a severely underweight and weakened condition. Indri was even found with an open wound caused by an attack from a plantation dog.
After going through quarantine together, both of them are now in much better condition. Esa and Indri are currently part of the Nursery Group at the Samboja Lestari Rehabilitation Centre. There, they are learning how to grow into strong young orangutans: climbing trees, tasting fresh leaves and fruits, and curiously exploring everything they find in the nursery area.
Like twins close in age, Esa and Indri are inseparable. They grow, learn, and gain strength side by side, together.
Their rehabilitation journey is still long. Yet every small step forward is a powerful reminder that love, care, and compassionate treatment can truly change a future.
