Bloki’s Rescue

On Saturday morning (Oct, 13) at 7.30 am, a team from PT. Surya Citra Cemerlang (SSC) bringing a wild female orangutan in a small enclosure, arrived in a pickup car at BOSF Orangutan Reintroduction Center at Nyaru Menteng - Central Kalimantan.

Thanks to excellent coordination between Nyaru Menteng Communication Division, Pak Nandang from the Central Kalimantan Conservation of Natural Resources Authority (BKSDA), and SSC, the Medical Team at Nyaru Menteng quickly helped the injured orangutan whose age was predicted at 6-7 years old. Health check was conducted by vet Meryl and vet Maryos. Meanwhile, all required documents regarding this orangutan rescue, such as photos and background story were processed as well.

 Bloki's sad face

After getting medical treatment for few days at Nyaru Menteng, Bloki - the name of this wild female orangutan - recovered quickly. Therefore, on Oct 19, a small team consisting of staff of Nyaru Menteng and BKSDA, released Bloki at Sebangau National Park. The translocation was possible because Bloki is a very wild and independent orangutan who will not have any problem to survive in a forest, and thus she did not have to go through rehabilitation process.

Bloki was lucky. She can now resume her freedom at Sebangau National Park. Medical treatment from BOSF Medical Team as well as quick coordination and action of SSC and BKSDA have saved her life. However, we believe there are many orangutans out there who are not lucky enough to even get a chance like that. As long as deforestation in Kalimantan is still happening, orangutans condition are still in grave danger.
