Bumi’s adventurous spirit makes it impossible for him to stay in one place, as he is always exploring every corner of Bangamat Pre-Release Island. Even during feeding times, instead of crowding around the platform with the others, he prefers relaxing peacefully on his own along the grassy riverbank.
BACKGROUND STORY
Our team at Nyaru Menteng took in a baby boy orangutan on 18 June 2016, after he was rescued from Tumbang Koling village by the Central Kalimantan BKSDA and Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP). When he arrived, Bumi was so incredibly weak that he could not even open his eyelids, having been violently separated from his mother shortly after birth. Today, Bumi has fully blossomed into a confident individual on Bangamat Island, known affectionately as a quiet explorer. With his wild instincts thriving, he has developed exceptional survival skills, effortlessly foraging for forest fruits and edible palm shoots on his own.
