EARTH DAY 2024: PLANET VS PLASTICS
Every year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day to honour the planet that is home to us all.
Dark clouds were hanging low over the Kalimantan’s sky when a black Toyota Kijang Inova with, in the inside, the Deputy Director of Eijkman Molecular Biology Institute (EIJKMAN), Prof. dr. Herawati Sudoyo Ph.D, and her staff, Ms. Wuriyantari Septiadi entered the BOS Foundation at Samboja Lestari. Our vet, Agus Irwanto, welcomed and introduced them to the various orangutan reintroduction facilities at Samboja Lestari.
When looking at the facilities, Ms. Sudoyo was enthusiastic and very impressed with the BOS Foundation’s dedication in caring and maintaining the animals health and condition, both for orangutans and sun bears. She also had the opportunity to photograph orangutans and the landscape at Samboja Lestari.
After took the time visiting Samboja Lodge, a lodging facility at Samboja Lestari, Ms. Sudoyo enjoyed sumptuous lunch at Samboja Lestari’s office and chatted with vet Agus. As the rain began to fall, Ms. Sudoyo ended her visit and thanked to the BOS Foundation for such a warm welcome.

It was a usual day at the Nyaru Menteng forest school, where young orangutans were learning from one another while their human surrogate mothers looked on from below.
Our Post-Release Monitoring (PRM) team at Camp Himba Pambelum in Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park (TNBBBR), Central Kalimantan, encountered Suci, a young female orangutan, three times back in 2023.
