Lone awarded the Certificate of Appreciation

Lone Drøscher Nielsen, who was born in Aalborg, Denmark, has loved orangutans since she was young. In 1996, Lone left her home country to live in Indonesia in order to actively help with the saving and conservation of the orangutan in Kalimantan.

In the beginning of 2000, Lone helped the BOS Foundation to establish the Centre of Orangutan Rehabilitation at Nyaru Menteng, Central Kalimantan, and headed the program there for many years. Under her leadership, Nyaru Menteng has become the largest orangutan rehabilitation centre in the world by managing more than 600 orangutans. Lone has also actively spoken about problems of the orangutan at many events overseas and has persevered in the struggle to obtain funding for the orangutans welfare.
