ORANGUTAN DAY: BOS FOUNDATION CELEBRATES WITH TALK SHOW AND FILM SCREENING

Bogor, 26 Agustus 2023 - In celebration of International Orangutan Day, which falls on 19 August, the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation is proud to announce an event titled ‘FOMO: Forest for My Orangutans’. This event aims to help raise awareness and engage the public in the preservation of Kalimantan’s orangutans and their habitat, and invites all layers of society - the government, businesses, the public, and other stakeholders - to collaborate in protecting and conserving orangutans and their habitat.

A talk show will also be included in the ‘FOMO: Forest for My Orangutans’ event, which will be held offline by the BOS Foundation and features two knowledgeable speakers. The first speaker will be Drh. Nur Purba Priambada, an expert in wildlife conservation from the Wildlife Veterinarian’s Association. The second speaker on the show will be Willy Wiryawan, a wildlife photographer who has captured many beautiful images of orangutans and other wildlife in various regions across Indonesia. BOS Foundation awareness campaigners Davina Veronica, Nadine Alexandra  and Fade2Black will also be in attendance.

In addition to the talk show, the BOS Foundation will also screen a special episode of ‘Orangutan Jungle School’, a documentary that follows the adventures of young orangutans and their educational ups and downs in the Forest School of BOS  Foundation. This screening highlights the crucial issues that impact the conservation and protection of this one and only great ape species of Asia. The screening will also provide profound insights into the lives of orangutans and the challenges they face in the wild, as well as help raise awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and natural habitats for endangered species.

The ‘FOMO: Forest for My Orangutans’ talk show and film screening will take place on Saturday, 26 August, from 14:00 to 16:30 WIB, at Swiss-Bellin, Jalan Pajajaran Indah V,  Baranangsiang, West Java, Indonesia.

Dr. Ir. Jamartin Sihite, MSc., CEO of the BOS Foundation, said; "I sincerely hope that 'FOMO: Forest for My Orangutans' serves as a means to bring the public closer to the conservation issues affecting orangutans, and provides a broader understanding of the urgency in protecting this unique species. Everyone is welcome to ask questions and learn as much as possible about our conservation efforts for Bornean orangutans, which we have been conducting now for more than 30 years".

The main objective of this event is to raise public awareness of the importance of orangutan and habitat conservation, and to celebrate International Orangutan Day in an educational and enjoyable way. Through the talk show, we hope people will not only gain a broader understanding of conservation issues, but also be prompted to make more eco-friendly lifestyle changes and participate in activities that support the preservation of Kalimantan’s orangutans.

The BOS Foundation expresses deep gratitude for the immense support from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the sponsors assisting PT Sharp Indonesia and PT Avo Innovation Technology , the participating speakers, media contacts who have helped disseminate information, and support from our global partner organisations: BOS Australia, BOS Germany, BOS Switzerland, BOS UK, BOS USA, and Save the Orangutan, as well as other conservation institutions, including Orangutan Outreach, and individual donors from all over the world who support our conservation work and the preservation of nature in Indonesia.
