Orangutan Day Celebration: A Long Journey for the Future of Orangutans and Their Habitat

BOGOR, WEST JAVA 19/8/2024

Jakarta, August 19, 2024, Every orangutan we saved has gone through an extraordinary journey that takes them from life-threatening conflict and ends with them delivered to freedom in their natural habitat. This journey takes many years as the rescued individuals learn in Forest School how to climb, find food, and interact with fellow orangutans. This is all to prepare them to live independently in the wild.

The process of reintroducing orangutans back into the wild requires years of hard work and endless dedication from our team. However, every step from the nursery to the forest canopy brings us closer to our ultimate goal: to see orangutans thriving back in their natural habitat.

Dr. Ir Jamartin Sihite, Chairman of the BOS Foundation, said: "This day is a moment to reflect on our conservation journey. Every orangutan who returns to its habitat is proof of our hard work. Let us reaffirm our commitment to a better future for orangutans and their forests. Right now, nearly 300 orangutans under our care are still waiting to be released and this can only be made a reality with close cooperation from all sides. Conservation is our shared responsibility and requires collaboration between governments, NGOs, the private sector, and the general public. Together, we can protect and preserve the forests and species in them.”

On this Orangutan Day, we need commitment and dedication from all to be able to save the future of orangutans and their natural homes.

We call on all parties to continue to participate and provide support for the survival of orangutans. Let's celebrate Orangutan Day together and commit ourselves to a better future for them.

Happy Orangutan Day!
