EARTH DAY 2025: OUR POWER, OUR PLANET
Every year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day as a moment to raise awareness and encourage real action in protecting the environment.
There are a lot of ways to get to know Indonesia’s natural wonders and one of them is to join an outdoor activity like “My Trip My Adventure”. For those who live in Indonesia, you may already know of this community group, as it is a favourite television programme for Indonesians, particularly those with an interest in outdoor activities and travel enthusiasts across the country. The Balikpapan chapter of My Trip My Adventure Community is one of those groups.
This community has been formed by the Balikpapan youth in East Kalimantan. They love nature-based tourism sites and as part of their program they visited BOS Foundation Samboja Lestari to meet our team and build a better understanding about orangutans and BOS Foundation programs.
The members of the Adventure community were extremely enthusiastic and curious about orangutans and we warmly welcomed them. Of course we love talking about orangutans, so after an introductory presentation the Adventurer’s then shared their experiences and perceptions on orangutan and habitat conservation.
They also took the time to visit our sun bear sanctuary as well as the orangutan islands, just 200 meters away from the BOS Foundation Samboja Lestari Information Centre.
At the sun bear sanctuary our technicians were already distributing food for the sun bears just before they were released into the outdoor enclosures for afternoon playtime.
The leader of the Adventurer’s, Santuso expressed their delight at being able to visit and better understand the situation and activities related to orangutan and sun bear conservation by the BOS Foundation team at Samboja Lestari, and they will share the information they gathered to other My Trip My Adventure members across Indonesia!
“This is a very important moment of us, and we will share the knowledge acquired during this visit to our members across Indonesia. We hope that there will be more members of civil society that will understand and care about the future of orangutans and want to concretely support orangutan and habitat conservation efforts”, he said.
At the end of the visit, all of the Adventurer’s joined our #OrangutanLifeSaver program! They also presented us with a lovely orangutan sketch as a souvenir.
To all at My Trip My Adventure, we thank you for taking the time to visit and support us! We hope that this is just the first of many visits and we look forward to you spreading awareness on the conservation of orangutans and their habitat. The future survival of orangutans is in our hands and we need your help now more than ever! #SaveOrangutans #SaveOurFuture
