Last August, Cilik, Cindy’s first son, ventured far away to the top of OPJ Hill, around 700 m ASL and left his mother and baby brother Riwut behind.

Last August, Cilik, Cindy’s first son, ventured far away to the top of OPJ Hill, around 700 m ASL and left his mother and baby brother Riwut behind.
In the recent month Noel had given us quite a headache. He was often seen wandering around the camp in Kehje Sewen Forest and attempting to loot our camp, especially during the day when most technicians were monitoring other orangutans in the forest.
Madara was separated from his mother, kept as pet and almost sold on the illegal pet trade. Fortunately a good man stepped in and saved him from this terrible fate and handed him over to the BOS Foundation team in Nyaru Menteng.
Almost all orangutan babies who arrive with us are orphaned. Many of these infants are all too often traumatized as they were brutally separated from their mothers during their illegal capture.
