8 BULLETS ON WINDY'S HEAD

Windy is a 6 year-old female orangutan with long pretty hair that dances in the wind. She is originally from East Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan. Submitted by a group of workers at an oil palm plantation, Windy is currently undergoing special treatment at Nyaru Menteng. Why?

Windy suffered a tragic fate. Forcibly separated from her mother, Windy was handed to us after she was shot. There were eight bullets in her head. It seemed that Windy was shot at close range using a pellet gun with 4-millimeter caliber bullets. She was also very thin and malnourished. Her hair was dull and her eyes were permanently blind.

One month after her arrival in May 2012, now Windy’s condition has begun to improve. She is more active in her enclosure and has begun to eat fruits and drink milk. But of course she can no longer be as wild orangutans in general. Windy cannot return to the forest. All her life, she will always require treatment. She will always depend on us.
